If you spilled a liquid in your computer, don’t panic! We have a solution for your case. Well, at least 85% of the times…
Based on the huge number of computers we already fixed after this type of accident (not to mention the ones we could not fix), we can say that spilling liquid in your computer is not the problem. The real problem is trying to turn it back on after that. And that’s valid for both Macs and PCs.
The following tip is valid for both too: if such accident happen to your computer, you should immediately unplug it from the wall, put it upside down and remove the battery. Do not attempt to turn it on. I understand that often you will be concerned about the text/spreadsheet or homework you were working at, but believe me: the best way to NOT jeopardize it, is to follow these instructions. Once you’ve done that, you are on your way to save your computer. And don’t forget: the sooner you bring it to the shop, the higher are the chances too.
Please bring your computer to the shop as soon as you can and we will work on having your computer back on its feet. For that, there is a lot to go through!
Now is where the things can get really different between PCs and Macs.
The first step once you bring your computer to the shop is to open and entirely clean it up.
This is not the hardest part, but is definitely the most time consuming. We have to pay attention to every detail, component, connector, etc.
To give you an idea, at one time a client brought me a computer that he tried to internally clean up himself, without the proper chemicals and even after that, this is how it was.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of the very same component after a proper clean up, but this is from a computer that we cleaned up just a few hours before publishing this webpage:
